What an unusual day I’ve had.  Right up there in the more surreal you could almost say.

Firstly I had to deal with a kitchen explosion caused by the highly successful meal served by five gorgeous boys to 15 impressed adults.  They did a great job and it was lovely to have them about.  A few more of my son’s mates came round a bit later and it just seemed to work.   I was completely freaking out at 6.30pm last night with no sign of any help, loads to do, tables and chairs to find, plates, cutlery, glasses, wine….nothing was done.  They got back from their rugby (which they won and son scored) and just got on with the jobs.  So good for them.  Brownies seemed to appear from all different directions and they rustled up a fruit salad for about 85 with an attractive centrepiece:-DSC_0705

However much I tell myself it’s OK to be on my own, I’m not really enjoying being single at the moment.  It’s not much fun at my age knowing that you haven’t got somebody who’s going to like you enough to stick around when they have to push you around in a wheel chair in [...]

My teenage son is off to spend the week with my brother doing important things at the hospital for work experience. [...]

TEENAGE PARTY BEHAVIOUR

Saturday morning. My floor is covered in beer and boys. Teenage boys all spread about in a messy way. My son had a “it’s so not a party, it’s just a few mates coming round, it’ll be fine” gathering last night and this morning, you could have fooled me. I went out for a bit [...]

TRUMPET PRACTICE

I have discovered that there is one major constant in our week that pretty much sums up how disorganised and ineffective we are as a family – or more precisely that I am as a mother. This particular “Ground Hog Day” moment happens EVERY Friday morning at almost exactly 8.45am. This is when my youngest [...]

“INDEPENDENT” NEWSPAPER SOLD FOR £1

This is why newspapers will never completely collapse. Whenever another paper is on the brink of collapse there is always another very, very wealthy man prepared to invest billions to become the owner of a media empire. The same applies to failing football clubs. I guess if you have loads of money, why not. It’s [...]
