We got a call first thing this morning. Emirates wanted everybody at the hotel to go to the airport. We were given three deadlines. The first was to leave within half an hour. There was no way. We had unpacked as if we were going to be staying for the next month. Total chaos in our room. Took two hours to squish it all into suitcases.
We have now been at the airport for over four hours. Not much is happening. Some people have got on flights. We are waitlisted for a full flight to Heathrow but so are 90 others. Not much hope of that then.
Others have been waitlisted for flights through the night. No idea if we are going to get on a flight today or not. If not, we have to find more accommodation and I very much doubt Emirates will be prepared to cover that.
Perhaps we should have stayed at the hotel for another day. The airport seems quite quiet mind you. Not too many stressed passengers hanging around. Fingers and toes crossed. My son is having his operation as we speak. Waiting to hear how it went. Doubly anxious as a result.

Things are moving – you will probably get a flight in the middle of the night.

My daughter and I are about to do the same here in Chicago.
We were told to go 5 hours early.
Thankfully I’m not dealing with any hotel rooms.
I really hope your sons op goes well today.
Be strong.

oh no, Dubai airport is horrid for hanging around, there is nothing of merit there and the men letching at the young western girls – yuk. If your credit isn’t max’d out I’d pay for the lounge – hey this has taken you so far down the cost route why stop now. I seriously can’t understand how you’ve managed not to have a complete mental breakdown – you rock girl :0)

Good luck. There’s a hotel inside the airport terminal if you’re stuck overnight – saves leaving and having to get back again
Fingers crossed for your son’s operation

you must be home by now..the sky across Kent as I walked the dog early this morning was a brilliant blue but criss-crossed with hundreds of vapour trails – all heading to Heathrow…I looked up and thought of you. My sister in law who was stuck in Japan, is back (albeit via Vienna!). Hope all is well with first born. x

This is such a great resource that you are providing and you give it away for free. I love seeing websites that understand the value of providing a quality resource for free. It is the old what goes around comes around routine.

We are taking a super last minute trip to Japan with our 6 month old daughter. We are planning on going to Tokyo for 4 nights, then Kyoto for 7 and then back to Tokyo for 5. We are planning on using both cities as bases for day trips. In Kyoto, we have booked the Ana Intercontinental for 6 nights and want to spend one night at a Ryokan.

Many thanks for the well-thought report. My wife’s calling me for dinner So I have to go off without reading all I’d like. However, I put your blog on my RSS feed so that I can examine far more.
