ART FOR ART’S SAKE

BLOG, REVIEWS

Apologies to my two concerned readers …. I’ve been in Scotland for the last few day. I went off in a rush and then couldn’t get a computer to work up there to let you both know I was safe.

I went to stay with my lovely friends who live just outside Glasgow. I had been anticipating blizzards and freezing icy conditions and instead I got this:-

They had invited me to join them for an Art for Art’s Sake event in Edinburgh on Thursday evening. The venue was the Ingleby Gallery, located opposite Waverly Station. It is a fantastic space, housing an eclectic selection of artists both of international repute, such as Anthony Gormley and newer artists in the early stages of their career. In the upper gallery the Ingleby’s are currently exhibiting 45 small, what look like black and white photographs of the sea’s edge but on closer inspection are incredibly detailed pencil drawings, by Richard Forster:

Gallery owners, artists, collectors and curators were brought together for the evening and a number of them talked about various aspects of the artworld. It was all incredibly interesting. I was lucky enough to be sitting next to Alison Watt, the artist who is currently working as the National Gallery’s Associate Artist in London. She is the youngest in the scheme’s history and recently had an exhibition there, which I’ve written about before:-
