I am not happy. For the THIRD time this year I have forgotten to pay my congestion charge within the alloted time. I accept that this is my fault and that I am an idiot.
However, this time, when I rang them, I genuinely thought I was fine. It was for the day before yesterday. But no. I have missed my deadline by 10 hours. Consequently I have to pay the full £120 unless I do it quickly and then it gets reduced by half. Big deal. £60.00 is too much to pay when I am only a day late. I think it’s really unfair. Outrageous even. I think it should work like a library book. You pay more for each day you are late.
I had a very sympathetic woman listening to me on the phone. I told her that I thought it was unreasonable to charge so much for such a minor misdemeanour - and she apologised and said that if I wanted to contest it I could write in, but I’m sure it’s not going to make any difference.
I’m going to have to think about how I compile my letter because her name was “Seman” which could be interesting….
