EXERCISES FOR THE PERFECT ARSE

Ok, by popular request I am going to suggest several things to try in order to help strengthen and thus lift your bottom.

The best way to do this I find is to work out a way of exercising whilst doing your normal routines. Working harder when you walk or stand, rather than making you do specific exercises you clearly won’t do.

So. The most important thing to do first is to start engaging your pelvic floor muscles more and at all times. These are ridiculously important muscles (they are the ones you will know about if you’ve had a baby – you engage them in the same way you would if you were stopping your flow of urine – sorry to be blunt, but that’s the best way to describe the squeeze you need). They not only help strengthen the deeper muscles and your inner core but help you avoid everything eventually falling out of your front bottom and once you are squeezing those together a little more, your gluteal muscles are immediately engaged and working.

So as you read this, simply squeeze your pelvic floor muscles up inside your body and suck your naval in towards your spine more (ideally hollowing out your stomach briefly). Squeeze in and up as much as you can just for one breath and then release the tension about 50%. Then about another 20%. Then try and maintain the rest of the engagement for the entire remainder of the day (except when you are asleep or on the loo). Definitely keep them working during any sex you might be lucky to have – makes all the difference!

Once you can feel those deeper muscles working better you can begin to simply squeeze your buttock muscles together more when walking.

    I find that exercise really irritating to do for some reason. Still – I will persist. Next year my bum might be back where it used to be, or I’ll have to beat you up at CyberMummy! (It will be all your fault you see.)

    I moved into a high set queenslander a year ago and between the stairs and clenching the buttocks while walking (hint given to me by my yoga teacher) I have a pert butt for the first time in years?

    Well, pert is relative, but I’m happy.

    And yes, it DOES make all the difference during sex. Enough said.
