Today I love my children. They have made amends for their appalling weekend behaviour and now they can do no wrong. For a minute.
I had to go to a parent/teacher meeting at my teenage son’s school tonight. He came with me as did my X. We had to go and see 2 x biology, maths, chemistry and economics teachers and every single one of them said the same thing. ”You are an oustanding student with just the right attitude”. ”You work incredibly hard and although you don’t necessarily get it straight away, you have exactly the right approach and you’re consistent and determined and you get there in the end”. Last time we saw the same Biology teacher he told us that our son had got the worst result he had ever seen in a mock GCSE at that school. This time he said “I am SO proud of you. You took on board everything I said and just got on with it and you have successfully turned yourself around. Your determination and tenacity have paid off and you really ought to do extremely well”.
Unbloodybelievable. Seriously. Where does all that come from? I’ve never heard anything like it. That’s not normal go-to-see-the-teacher-behaviour. I was gobsmacked and slightly suspicious.
Whilst we were out my daughter cooked us a meal – her speciality, cheese pasta bake was waiting for us when we got home:-

My youngest, as always was making me laugh. Practicing his robot dance and planning his cake sale. “Mum, at the weekend, can I do a cake sale? Some girls did it last week and made £160. I want to do the same and give all the money to Haiti. Is that OK?” Brilliant idea I said. Fantastic.
Two minutes later he came back and said “I’ve worked out I’ve got to make 160 cakes if I sell them for £1 each and I can’t be bothered to make that many. Can I sell them for £5 each do you think? Also. Do you think it will be OK if I keep a little bit of the money for myself….for all my hard work?….and maybe a few of the cakes too?”

And you were ready to sell the children in aid of Haiti….!
Thankfully they do have their moments, well done to eldest boy, we recently had a similar evening with the youngest girl. I leaves you with a warm glow.
I am troubled by your youngest boy’s maths. If he got you to make the cake and he stayed in bed and the cake was sold on the internet for £160, he would be quids in, and you would be knackered, as usual!

Great news. I always tell my kids I don’t really care what grades they get as long as they try their hardest and I don’t hear a single teacher say “Should do better”.

Now that’s what I call a Parents Evening to be proud of. I was always a bit swotty at school but once a physics teacher said I was a “fly by night”. My parents were so surprised they asked him if he was talking about the right child and embarrassingly repeated my name and got him to check his list.
Feeling hungry looking at that pasta bake – would pay 5 quid for that no problem.

I couldn’t understand some parts of this article, but I guess I just need to check some more resources regarding this, because it sure sounds interesting!

Have just returned from a fantatisc trip on Samui Island, stayed at Rocky Beach in Lamai which is less busy than the party areas, great resort and great beaches. We hired a jeep for only 400 baht per day and would drive around Samui. So many great places to eat, our favourite restaurant was Thai Food Heaven in Chaweng Noi which had the most wonderful view over the beach, the staff was rather friendly and the food so yummy, we would go for sunset drinks. My girlfriend and I had a great time and will be back for New Year.
