Within a matter of days, it seems to me, my daughter and all her friends have a new heart-throb to swoon over. Until last week, I hadn’t even heard of him. Justin Bieber. It just doesn’t sound very rock and roll does it? He’s Canadian and looks about 5. Very glossy and smiley with shiny white teeth and frankly far too clean looking for me – which is not what a mother is supposed to say is it?
Anyway, my 14 year old daughter was invited to a competition winners event yesterday to see him play and here is her review of how it all went:-
“Yesterday night i was lucky enough to be invited to the Justin Bieber concert at the science museum. The venue was small which made it fantastic, it held about 45 people. His support act was a 17 year girl called Rachel Furner who was lovely and had the most amazing voice, she was really like Pixie Lott but had a wider range of notes.
It was a while until he came on because he really wanted the fans outside who didn’t have wristbands to be out of the cold so he let them all squeeze in to the small room- all the girls thought that was so sweet.
He came on and everyone went mad, then he started singing and it was manic. I think the reason why the girls like him is that his songs are so genuine and he’s not like the other guys.
Also although he’s only 15 he is very confident with the girls and called one up on stage and they sang face to face. He gives them his guitar pick too so it was all really close and intimate.
The security guards were really protective of him and told us to stay in our seats but then at the beginning of one of the songs he told us to all stand up, so we all rushed forward and got really close to him – I don’t think the security guards were very happy.
He dedicated one of his songs to his dad and his dad was there crying by the side door and he said when he had enough money he was going to buy his mum a house and he wanted to really look after his sister. It was completely amazing, he did like six songs and sang his new single “One Time” last which is at No.9 in the UK Top 40 charts this week.
Also, after school today we went to see him at Westfields and actually managed to touch the car he was in as he drove away. That was amazing”.
OK. Review over, back to cynical old mum. You can imagine as my daughter was relaying all the above to us, her brother’s were virtually gagging. She said, “typical, none of the boys like him, they’re so jealous of him”. When she talked about him buying his mother a house, I admit to going a bit soppy and thinking “aaah how lovely” until my younger child said “BUY HIS MUM’S HOUSE?? WHY WOULD HE DO THAT? WHY DOESN’T HE BUY HIS OWN?”.

LOL, takes me back to when I would cry over pictures of fully made up man-boys on my bedroom wall, just moved to tears by their sheer magnificence.
If I’d touched one of their cars I might well have spontaneously combusted with delight.
