REVIEWS

OK. Quite a few of you guessed the make of my new car. I spent months thinking about it and owe my decision to Builder Bloke who decided that this was the only obvious choice for me and bollocks to the fact that I can’t fit any shopping and/or children into the car at the same time. It was a good time to buy a new car and I got a good deal on part-exchange of my old car AND the Mini is 50 years old this year AND it’s got an Eco rating of 7/10 AND a top speed of 123mph .

I have to say (apart from the expense, which as I said before is going on my MIGA* card) that it was an absolute pleasure buying a Mini. It felt a bit like I was adopting a child. The girl I dealt with called me every week to give me an update on it’s progress. She got ridiculously excited about the whole process and eventually her enthusiasm became infectious. LOOK at what was there to meet me when I went to pick it up:-

Builder Bloke came with me to pick it up. I just kept saying “OMG look at the bow!!” “They’ve wrapped up my new car!! It’s got a BOW!! I can’t believe it” and he kept saying “look at the car, stop looking at the bloody bow”.

It’s just like driving a go-kart, only a little bit faster … 0-62mph in 9.8 seconds. It decides when I need my lights on and what speed the windscreen wipers should go. I LOVE it. LOOK AT THOSE WHEELS! It also apparently tells me how long I have had the roof down (a lot so far owing to heatwave) but I can’t find the dooberywhotsit that tells me that. I can even put the roof back on whilst driving to avoid having to block roads when it starts to rain or when I inadvertently get stuck under a bridge with lots of nesting pigeons above me (like yesterday).

SO, although my children’s legs will fall off due to lack of circulation if we have to go on a long journey and we will be unable to take any luggage and we will overheat because we will all be wearing 5 layers of clothing in order to save space, I have even managed to claw back some street cred from them. They are (so far) seriously impressed.

I read that wrongly at first and thought you'd bought a fifty year old mini – I thought you'd joined the Mini Owners' Club and got into classic cars!

    It's sooooooo lovely!

Way cool. Knocks my Renault 307 into a cocked hat. (That would have to be some big hat, I guess. What an odd expression).

Oh, whine, moan, gripe, complain – I would die for something like this but I seem to live in the Land of the Giants (see post) and no one else would fit in it.
    Hang on a minute….
