“NEW MOON” FILM REVIEW

BLOG, REVIEWS

“Twilight” fever has hit the UK.   I promised my daughter we’d go and see it after school today because she wasn’t around over the weekend and as it’s the only series of books she’s ever actually read from start to finish I didn’t mind.  She’s nearly finished the third book and anything that gets my children reading has got to be good.

I took her and a friend and my two boys.  She was ridiculously excited.  Literally squeaking….and every time either Robert Pattinson or Jacob Black (what a body) came on the screen there was a collective audible sigh of desire from the girls.  I have never heard teenage lust like it…..it’s just like Beatlemania all over again.

Well.  What can I say.  The film was rubbish, but what do I know.  I get the appeal.  It isn’t  as good as the first one but it doesn’t really matter because the heartthrobs are there in abundance and that is all that matters…oh and the fact that Bella and Edward simply can’t have sex because just touching leaves them almost orgasmic with overwhelming emotion makes it pretty steamy and I can see why lots of teenage girls would be watching that slow motion ‘not having sex’ stuff and just loving it.  It’s all about restraint and a less is more attitude.

I was more interested in the fact that my friend used to teach Robert at his primary school and in formulating the theory that a teen film with a protagonist that gets those pulses racing was always going to happen because there is not one heartthrob in any of the Harry Potter movies and it was just a time bomb waiting to be exploited.

I am so old that I quite fancied Bella’s dad – although spent a lot of time wondering how much better he’d look without a moustache.
