POST EXAM PARTY

BLOG, KIDS

I have sparkly green toes.

They look quite pretty. Or they look mouldy. One or the other.

This is because when I wandered into my bathroom in the middle of the night – just as the teenage party was winding up – around 3am – there was lots of sparkly green eyeshadow on the floor that must have been dropped by one of the divine creatures that floated around my house all evening.

So, with green toes this morning I tentatively came downstairs. Hoping not to find any dead bodies, or bodies at all for that matter, expecting lots and lots of mess…but it really wasn’t too bad. Teenage son had made a brief effort to get all the cans and bottles in one place. Sticky floor as usual with popcorn stuck to it but on the whole not bad.

They were all in such a lovely mood. Post AS levels. Lots of my son’s friends had done ridiculously well – 5 A’s!!! Lots had done worse than they were expecting, but they were still all supporting each other and talking about retakes or alternative options and I took my other kids out for supper and then went out for a drink with Builder Bloke to stay out of the way for a minute, but on our return they were all happy to chat away to us and dance about and it is really lovely to see them all together enjoying themselves and not minding a few adults here and there.

My poor daughter was struggling a bit. They were noisy obviously and they were wandering about – I was sitting with her and at least three times they wandered into her room, either for a chat, or to leave a bag, or to find a lost phone and in the end I had to give her a chair to wedge up against the door so that they couldn’t get in and she could get some sleep.

So. A big success. Not something I want to have to do too often next year (OMG he’s going to be 18 in DECEMBER! Must quickly offer him loads of money instead of a party and start saving now).
