We, the taxpayers now own 70% of the Royal Bank of Scotland. SURELY we should collectively be able to stop RBS (and Barclays and Lloyds) from imminently paying out millions of annual bonuses to their staff?
This is a reward for grievous failure. We would not put up with this level of f*ck up in any other sector of the community. Staff should be answerable for their mistakes. That is how it works within our councils, our hospitals, our schools, our everything.
Our banking system, by doing this is sinking even lower than I thought possible. It is a bloody national disgrace.
What shall we do about it?

The RBS is my bank so I don’t know where that leaves me! I agree with you it’s quite unacceptable what they’ve all been up to. I suspect, though, that once again the majority of the players will get away with it and are already siphoning off millions to Swiss and offshore accounts. Meanwhile, we struggle to pay mortgages and bring up children. Plus ça change etc.

I sooooooooooo agree with you and find myself impotent with rage at the thought of those people, having helped to get us in this mess, should now be profiting from OUR money. I am with M Sarkosy who quoted “not a centime” I dont know how they have the face to take the money and how we can be so apathetic as to allow it to happen.
Its stealing…… I am now hyperventialating so I should go and get my paper bag!!!!!!
