SCHOOL TALENT SHOW

BLOG, KIDS

Oh. Now I have a bit of a dilemma. My 7 year old came out of school today really upset because he wanted to be part of the Christmas talent show that they are doing at school on Friday. He couldn’t get anybody to be his partner. The deadline was today and they had all chosen other people. I really felt for him and after a while decided to enlist the help of his older brother for advice. “Don’t worry, do something on your own, I’m sure the teacher will let you enter if you ask her tomorrow…I’ll help you think of something”. He came up with various options, all of which I am afraid I dismissed as unsuitable: kick-ups? (too risky, he can only do 3 on a good day), learning to juggle? (too late), singing a song? (too nervous), eating an apple really fast? (not a good look), changing really fast (why?) and so on. So he gave up suggesting things to me and I left them to it.

I now have the dubious honour of having a child in a talent competition at the local school (where I can guarantee they will all be singing and dancing) who is going to burp the alphabet. He is actually going to BURP THE ALPHABET! How revolting is that? He’s just done it for me – it’s hilarious. But is it highly inappropriate to let him do that in front of everybody?

I don’t know what to do – he’s very exited now. I bet they’ve never had a child do that in a Christmas Talent show before. Oh no. I’d much rather he was singing Nissun Dorma (sounds like a car – obviously not correct spelling – v. little clue about opera).

Go on – let him do it! Every parent knows a child who can burp the alphabet.

If you’re laughing so will everyone else….
