“SHAME” – NEW SINGLE BY ROBBIE WILLIAMS AND GARY BARLOW

BLOG, REVIEWS

Being a HUGE Robbie Williams fan – I have to say I’m very disappointed with the new single due to be released in October. It’s just the two of them crooning with some terrible lyrics. My daughter likes it though and maybe it’s a grower (as we used to say in the business) and I’ll like it more after a few more listenings).

This single is in advance of a new album coming out later in the year – which (call me an old cynic) will no doubt be a Greatest Hits album of all their old stuff, which is why Robbie is rumoured to be making only a brief come back for a mega tour next year.

The video helped though – quite funny in a Brokeback mountain sort of way:-

At least they have the decency to look as if they’re about to burst out laughing!

I’m a huge Robbie fan also, but I disagree with you: I enjoyed this single. Okay, this is the first time I’ve seen or heard it (thanks) but it’s catchy and funny. Yes, Brokeback Mountain humour and they’re having a laugh. They’re acknowledging publicly that they were friends, the band broke up, lots of resentment but they’re getting older, more mature and, hey, didn’t we have a blast when we were young! Yeah, so did I, and now I still rock and roll on my zimmer to Led Zep and, hello nurse, is it time for bed already?

Big Robbie fan here too (but not TT) Its a laugh – I think they know exactly what they’re doing and it’s very clever. It’s sweet, but dreadful, in a sweet way, and appeals in an ironic way to all their old(er)/original fans….who also understand what falling out with a good mate is all about and how difficult it is to swallow pride and say sorry. As a ‘pop’ single it is truly dreadful and awful, but, as a commercial for the up coming album and tour it is very astute. People are talking (and bloging!) about it…
