STUFF FOR YOUNG BOYS TO DO IN LONDON

BLOG, KIDS, TRAVEL

OK. So I have been asked what would be of interest for a 9 year old boy who hasn’t been to London before – I asked the person who would know the best answer to that question – my 9 year old son. It seems to me that although there is a lot of information all about what to do with kids in London, it isn’t necessarily age and/or gender specific.

So here is my son’s Top 10 list of things to do in London (I’ve removed “football” and “paintballing” because it’s not London specific. I have also taken myself into consideration and factored in food and cups of tea and shopping in nice places):-

1. Go shopping in Hamleys and then cross over the road to the National Geographic shop at 83 Regent St
2. Go on the London Eye
3. Eat at the Rainforest Cafe (you have to book)
4. Eat a chinese meal in Soho (you don’t have to book, just stroll around Chinatown)
5. Go to the Natural History Museum or the Science Museum (they’re next to each other) which has an Imax cinema
6. Go on a London bus (maybe the open top tour one)
7. Go shopping in Oxford/Regent Street/Carnaby St, maybe check out the food/have tea at Fortnum and Mason’s
8. See the Lion King show (you have to book) and walk around Covent Garden
9. Walk down the South Bank by the river to Tate Modern
10. Get a boat along the river

There is a fantastic Van Gogh exhibition on at the Royal Academy at the moment but it finishes on April 18th 2010 and also Dinosaurs Unleashed in Oxford St sounds quite interesting.

Hope this helps….

Ah bless – what a refined little fella he is – shopping, Fortnums, a walk down the South Bank! If I was 9, I’d marry him!

I recently asked my 10 yr-old what he wanted to do on a day out in London and we ended up going to the Ripleys Museum, lunch at MacDonalds (classy), the London Dungeons and dinner at a little Italian bistro. I was knackered and had nightmares for a week after the Dungeon experience!

Well, yes you’re right, I did think some of his suggestions sounded a little poncy, but that might have just been me pointing him in the direction of smart shops (or possibly his obsession with food halls) Lx

Hamleys and The London Eye were top of my girls list too. I think Hamleys might be top of mine, as you all know, men are just big kids!
