OK. Quite a few of you guessed the make of my new car. I spent months thinking about it and owe my decision to Builder Bloke who decided that this was the only obvious choice for me and bollocks to the fact that I can’t fit any shopping and/or children into the car at the same time. It was a good time to buy a new car and I got a good deal on part-exchange of my old car AND the Mini is 50 years old this year AND it’s got an Eco rating of 7/10 AND a top speed of 123mph .

I have to say (apart from the expense, which as I said before is going on my MIGA* card) that it was an absolute pleasure buying a Mini. It felt a bit like I was adopting a child. The girl I dealt with called me every week to give me an update on it’s progress. She got ridiculously excited about the whole process and eventually her enthusiasm became infectious. LOOK at what was there to meet me when I went to pick it up:-

Builder Bloke came with me to pick it up. I just kept saying “OMG look at the bow!!” “They’ve wrapped up my new car!! It’s got a BOW!! I can’t believe it” and he kept saying “look at the car, stop looking at the bloody bow”.

It’s just like driving a go-kart, only a little bit faster … 0-62mph in 9.8 seconds. It decides when I need my lights on and what speed the windscreen wipers should go. I LOVE it. LOOK AT THOSE WHEELS! It also apparently tells me how long I have had the roof down (a lot so far owing to heatwave) but I can’t find the dooberywhotsit that tells me that. I can even put the roof back on whilst driving to avoid having to block roads when it starts to rain or when I inadvertently get stuck under a bridge with lots of nesting pigeons above me (like yesterday).

SO, although my children’s legs will fall off due to lack of circulation if we have to go on a long journey and we will be unable to take any luggage and we will overheat because we will all be wearing 5 layers of clothing in order to save space, I have even managed to claw back some street cred from them. They are (so far) seriously impressed.

MIGA Card = “Make It Go Away” card

My friend and her boyfriend had a party last night at his house. He owns a HUGE house with a swimming pool about 45 minutes away from here. It was fab, all twinkly lights and lovely food and champagne flowing and lots of grown-up children mixing with the adults, which I love. My beautiful god-daughter and I solved the problems of the world (I think, although I’m a little hazy on some of the solutions we came up with) and there I was enjoying seeing people I haven’t seen for ages and dancing about when I had a sudden flash of inspiration. “I know what I’ll do, I’ll ring Builder Bloke and invite him to come – he only lives 10 minutes away”. So I did and he appeared 10 minutes later and everyone was a little surprised to see him arriving at 1.45am. Oops. My watch was broken. I thought it was about 10pm.

It of course seemed like a brilliant idea at the time, but in the cold light of day it wasn’t a good idea because I am not supposed to be seeing him anymore. HOWEVER, it was lovely to see him. We danced and talked and laughed and stuff.

Now I’m off to collect my children from their father’s house IN MY NEW CAR – I’m going to have to dedicate a whole post to it because I love it so much. I’ve never actually owned a car that I have chosen specifically before – I’ve either had company cars or “needs must” cars – like most people in life I guess. Actually I don’t in fact own it. I’ve HP’d it or whatever you do when you can’t afford to buy a new car and can’t be arsed to do the maths properly so I’ll probably be spending twice as much money over time – I managed to get a good deal on part exchange for my old (completely revolting) car which was brilliant and I put the deposit on my MIGA* card.

My new little car is the most ridiculously inappropriate car for a mother with three children. Have a guess what it is…..
