Went to my brother's studio open day on Sunday with my mother and my children. Lots of brilliantly talented artists displaying their wares, but my brother and his wife had the best stall by miles. They were making key rings and fridge magnets and fists that could be used as paperweights (if anybody is over 70 and still has much paper) or just gorgeous pieces of art. They were casting children's hands and fingertips. Just brilliant. Endless possibilities for personalised body parts:- Here is my son, making a cast of his fist:- Measuring out the stuff (not sure that is the technical term):- My two son's fists drying after being spray painted - bit freaky - looks as if they've both been shut in a box:- Other body parts drying:- An 8 year old's fist:- My daughter making herself a thumb key ring:- Here is a brilliant way to display your own fist. My brother's finished bit of artwork for their charity sale:-

My brother and my son featured in the Imperial College Magazine a few days ago. SO exciting even though my son was looking a little worse for wear. That bloodied head was made from casting his head. Honestly, I don't know how he coped with the claustrophobia of it. Be warned. Horrid picture coming up. Here was how they did it:- Then they turned it into this:- and now he's made it into a magazine!:-

Rick Baker and Dave Elsey won an oscar for best make-up in the "Wolfman" film that came out last year which stars Benicio Del Toro, Anthony Hopkins and Emily Blunt. Well obviously they have to share their oscar with a number of incredibly talented make-up and prosthetic artists because you can't do make-up to that level without a team.....BUT GUESS WHAT? That means that I am proud to announce that MY BROTHER - a brilliantly talented prosthetic artist who previously worked on Holby City and now runs his own company won a little piece of an Oscar at the 83rd Academy Awards by being a key part of the team. Here are some pictures of him at work on the set. VERY COOL:- This one is creepy because he modelled his own arm and I recognise his hand so clearly:- Here he is working on some spilt guts:- And finally, here he is with the Wolfman himself:- Look out for him on Jamie Oliver's Dream School programme on Channel 4 starting next week - Jamie Oliver brings together some of Britain's most inspirational individuals to see if they can persuade 20 young people who've left school with little to show for the experience to give education a second chance. .

Sorry, I know a few of you have already seen this one…I’ve had to reprint it as slightly embarrassingly I have invited a blogger who has a very cool and gritty blog about life and death to see if he wants to accept a blogging award from me. Consequently, I am trying to impress him. [...]
