“Mews Of Mayfair” very generously hosted a charity lunch for Mencap yesterday. They provided us with their lovely first floor restaurant and a delicious three course meal with copious amounts of wine. I didn’t even know the restaurant was there – just opposite D & G on New Bond Street you go down a tiny little lane called Lancashire Court and there it is tucked away from the world – seemingly taking up most of the street on the left hand side – full of outdoor seating and buzz. Just lovely. I should have taken some photos but by the time we were sitting outside drinking wine under heaters I was just too busy enjoying myself.

“Mews Of Mayfair”can accommodate an awful lot of different requests given they have four floors of space . It was fine dining but with a wonderfully relaxed feel to it – no doubt thanks to the laid back Managing Director James Robson. They have masses of rooms, an art gallery/space to hire, several dining rooms and a club downstairs – what a great party venue.

I can’t believe I didn’t know about it before.

I went out for dinner with a girlfriend to a trendy Chelsea restaurant called “Brinkleys”. We went there having been told it was a popular venue with a buzzy bar.

It’s true. It was. Very lively. The restaurant is situated behind the bar and it was an effort to squeeze past all the punters to get to our table. We had a lovely meal and a bottle of inexpensive New Zealand Sauvignon Blanc and enjoyed all the beautiful people watching.

Slightly depressing though. I formulated a theory. The majority of the clientele were gorgeous girls in their 20′s and 30′s. There was a posse of very young boys all looking like Pete Docherty in skinny jeans and hats and then everybody else was quite clearly divorced….there were a few groups of much older men. Octogenarians almost.

The young boys all looked like they were buying drinks with daddy’s Coutts card. The girls were all lapping up the attention of both the young boys and the old blokes. The old blokes all sat at tables together ignoring each other and trying to catch the eye of any young thing that walked past. They did quite well actually.

My friend and I, both in our 40′s were completely and utterly invisible. Perhaps it’s just that I’ve moved on a bit, post divorce. I was there to talk to my friend. She’s married (and her husband was away saving babies in Sri Lanka, but I’m going to do a separate blog about that when he’s back) and neither of us wanted to make random rubbish small talk with men that had either only just been born or men that were about to die.

Good grief. I’m full of the joys of spring at the moment aren’t I??

We have just come back from a really lovely four day trip to the South of France to stay with some friends. It turned out to be one big party, involving at least 20 people whether we were on the beach or having lunch or a barbeque. That’s just how it is when a few friends get together with their kids. It was lovely. Not completely sure it was quite so much fun for the kids – watching their parents get slowly inebriated over the course of the afternoon – brought back memories of my childhood…..

We had a fantastic lunch at this restaurant (even if the waiters are super-grumpy):-

The beach looks like this:-

and the people look like this (check out the dog and HOW GORGEOUS are those legs?):-

Last year, he was here:-

Getting in a boat with this many gorgeous men:-

We didn’t spot any celebs this time, but instead we just had a wonderful lunch, where the children’s end of the table looked like this:-

We ate these (well, I didn’t because I think they’re revolting, but everybody else did):-

Whilst our end of the table looked like this:-
