THE OSCARS

How cool that Kathryn Bigelow has become the first woman to win the best directing Oscar, as her Iraq war drama The Hurt Locker took six prizes, including best film.

She was briefly married to James Cameron whose film Avatar was pitted against hers. Even more cool when you think that her film is the lowest grossing film (9.9m) ever to win an Oscar, compared to Avatar which has been the highest grossing film in history (1.32b).

I am horrified to hear that each guest received a goody bag containing products (such as diamond jewellery, watches, cars) and holidays to the value of up to 50K each! Can that really be true? In this current climate? With people like John Travolta flying his plane to Haiti with supplies for the survivors and then again with a team of Doctors how can the acting fraternity allow such an extreme example of ostentation to continue to exist?

Why couldn’t they have all got together and said that even some of the money was going instead towards helping rebuild Chile.

Unbelievable.

Yep, unbelievable indeed. In fact, I think it’s a bloody disgrace. I think all those who accepted goody bags, spent thousands of pounds/dollars on designer outfits, jewellery, limos, etc etc etc, should be deeply ashamed of themselves. They are no better than the selfish gets who landed at the Domican Replubic on their fancy cruise the day the Haiti earthquake struck, and refused NOT to make the most of their indulgence. It’s greed.

It is SUCH a shallow world out there it makes me want to scream. The only positive to the huge swag bag is the fact that it’s classed as income and they all have to pay taxes on it! Tee hee.
