My friend in Australia sent me an email today attaching a link to the following jacket from “Topshop”. She thinks I’d like it. She’s right. I do. But I’ve now realised that I have absolutely no clue what I should be wearing this winter.
So maybe I’ll buy the jacket (although it says it’s sold out). But then what? I’ve checked in “Vogue” magazine. They are recommending shorts and a nordic look and slouchy handbags that only cost £1000.00. Also indigo and tweed, over the knee boots or ankle boots and velvet. Not good when you’re in your 40′s with three children roaming around the suburbs and need to use money to feed and clothe above mentioned children – rather than strolling around looking like Puss-In-Boots.
Can I still wear my bootleg jeans or did they go out several years ago? I can’t do skinny jeans – I look ridiculous. All my skirts are too long. Although if I’m completely honest I don’t know what length they should be. Everybody is wearing leggings and long cardigans. I look horrible in both.
I asked my fashion conscious friend. She said short skirts, opaque tights, chunky boots. But what if you hate your knees? What tops should I wear?
OH NO. HELP. Having major fashion crisis.
My daughter says go retro – Blazers, shoulder pads and glitter.
WHAT WILL I LOOK LIKE? Sheena Easton or something out of Bananarama.
I really don’t think I can do shoulder pads (although the above jacket has them).
I can’t even find a shop I like anymore. I’ve always loved “Jigsaw” but even that feels too young these days and I can’t afford the more expensive labels.
Any advice girls?
Note to 3 male readers: Dumdad – what are they wearing in rural France these days? G in Scotland – you’re usually fab at fashion and M in the country – you might know?

Wellingtons, darling, short skirts (no knickers) and Harris tweed 'boyfriend' jackets ? Darned if I know – I've just discovered 'Superdry' (US brand, I think, sort of cross between gap and abercrombie) far too young for me, but who gives a fig….

can you amend that to 'm'

Sorry "m" couldn't amend first one so added second so everyone knows who you are….NO KNICKERS? and as you know I don't own a pair of wellingtons. This is a disaster. "Superdry" very cool. Known about them for years…Lx

Sorry, I can't possibly offer any advice, being terminally unfashionable! The retro 80s look sounds quite terrifying, especially having been there first time round!!

I don't do fashion… particularly now as my legs resemble inverted triangles/tree trunks so leggings look horrid on them – plus I wore leggings when I was 8-10 yrs old. It wasn't a good look then and it isn't now.
I'd go for the short skirt (mid thigh), don't panic about the knees – just get thicker tights and the boots – I reckon that's probly best. Stay away from jeans – that reminds me of my step mum when she used to think she looked cool with a blazer and jeans- urgh.

All a bit lost here. I find the shoulder pads especially scary. I hear purple is the colour of the season if that is any help?!!
You always look fab whenever I see you xx

I have but one comment:
