I sent a birthday message to an Australian friend yesterday and this morning she sent back a lovely long email updating me on her family. Only an Aussie could be this laid back about her teenage son’s behaviour:-
“He’s being a typical teenager. Drinking, smoking and partying. He had a “gathering” the other night (about 25) and the amount
they drank was frightening. One girl threw up in his bed. I was not happy!! But I was at least able to look at it from another point
of view and that was at least she didn’t throw up in my shoes. Happened to a friend of mine. When she went to bed after her son’s “gathering”, she walked around to her side of the bed and some girl had left her calling card in her shoes!!!! And she’d been drinking red wine!”.
She has always been a “glass half full” person….this scenario just sums that up beautifully don’t you think?

Wow. Now that is laid back! One evening of alien vomit in my shoes and I think ‘gatherings’ would be off the cards for years!

What an understanding mum. I always remember my younger brother having an alcoholic sleep over with mates. He requested a load of buckets – his mum thought “what a responsible bunch of lads..they’re going to clean up their own cans…” She wasn’t quite so impressed when she realised they were buckets to throw up in. Eck.

Sticking my fingers in my ears and singing loudly….don’t even want to think about this kind of thing…

laughing . . . yes, it is an excellent “glass half full” example
I have an almost-15 year old, and I’m not in the least bit ready for “typical teenage” behavior.
