BLOG

We are actually here! In my friend’s house. Just so lovely to see her and be back in Melbourne after all these years. I was last here 15 years ago. So lots has changed. So far, I haven’t recognised anything in fact.

Now we’ve got to work out the best approach to jetlag. I myself am a great believer in ignoring it. But we’ll see. I look as if I’ve caught elephantitis on the plane. YOU SHOULD SEE MY LEGS AND FEET. They’re SO swollen. There is no shape to my legs at all they just go straight down. No ankles at all. My toes look like little port sausages. It can’t be right to be so huge…thank goodness I was wearing Uggs because my feet swelled to such gigantic proportions on the plane that any other sort of shoes would have exploded. Also it meant that they were still comfortable to wear by the end of the flight and that they didn’t have to be cut off me. I have just shown my daughter my huge legs and feet and she has said “mum, calm down, they don’t look THAT bad, pretty much the same as usual actually”.

The journey was SO long. Just sitting, sitting, sitting on a far too small seat with no space to move and elbows tucked in to my sides. We flew with Emirates which I thought was quite good. Although we were delayed for nearly two hours before leaving London which meant a mad panic rush once we’d landed in Dubai to get the next plane. My youngest son spent most of the flight throwing up even though I told him that sitting on newspaper would work – it did for me when I was a child….I told him it was my Grandfather’s fail safe method – something to do with electrons and stuff and he didn’t believe me for a minute and then I felt really stupid, because I had believed my Grandfather.

As we rushed to get our connecting flight we were literally running up the escalator with me holding a sick bag and him vomiting and me shouting “come on we have to run, we’ll miss the plane”. Poor thing. He was very good. He did keep on running.

The second leg, Dubai to Melbourne seemed interminable. Mainly because we had already had enough of flying and being swollen and bored. All our bags were messed up and we didn’t want to read, sleep, eat or play Scrabble anymore. it wasn’t the same getting everything out again. The Emirates Cabin Crew didn’t seem to want to deal with endless bags of vomit. I can’t think why. I wasn’t very impressed by the fact that everytime he threw up they either had to rush off to find plastic gloves to put on before taking my unattractive offering OR they refused to take it and I had to climb over 8 people all eating loads of food and drinking hot stuff and put it in the loo….The poor guy next to me. I had to climb over him so many times. At the end he said “it’s weird – I’ve just had to go for a chunder too – not sure why” and I didn’t like to suggest that it might have a bit more to do with the six bottles of wine he’d consumed rather than a bit of motion sickness….

Anyway, enough of that….we’re here!! Yay. Off to beach for breakfast with her dog and lots of kids. Hopefully a couple of days of sunshine will be enough to get rid of all the burst blood vessel spots my youngest has acquired on his face owing to over-vomiting. He came rushing back from the loo on the plane saying “MUM. Look at my face – I’m covered in acne” and indeed he was covered in red dots everywhere. What a shame. Must try pills or wrist band on the way back and lose the bloody newspaper. He looks like he’s got meningitis…..big rash all over his face. No wonder they wouldn’t take the vom bags.

Great to know you’ve arrived safely. Poor little H vomiting all the way – he won’t want to get back on the plane to go home. Any chance you know what time you will arrive and depart Sydney? Just trying to get a few things organised. Have a lovely time in Melbourne. Will bring back lots of memories I imagine. Much love and see you soon, x

Hi there, usually I rarely post comments on WordPress blogs but now I am afraid I absolutely have to do it. The other day I decided to install the newer version of the Safari Internet browser and your personal site doesn’t display properly ever since. Now the header hides part of the text and I am unable read it. I used to have the same trouble with my herbal incense reviews Internet blog and I was able to fix it by changing the PHP code. Can you fix it? Thanks! Please excuse my poor English, it’s not my native language as you understand. I’m from Norway :)
