WILDEBEEST ENVY

BLOG

My 8 year old is at home today recovering from his vomit-fest of yesterday.  ”I had to clean my teeth 13 times yesterday – after each time I was sick” he told me and I fluctuated between thinking “I should have been there to mop his brow” to “thank goodness it wasn’t my weekend”.    He is much better today.  Just exhausted.

Consequently, I am stuck at home all day when I should be rushing around doing useful things.  I feel itchy. Especially my feet. I want to go and do something exciting. I want to be somewhere hot. This is when being part of the blogging community doesn’t help. I want to be a “jumper” like in the film and simply dive into somebody else’s life as and when I fancy a change of scenery. Today, I want to go to Africa.

I am missing my African blogging friends who have all buggered off for Christmas without even a backward glance or second thought for all their sad suburban blogites.

Janelle , for example, is on safari “chasing fleeting zebra, tearing through the whistling thorns, riding after wildebeest full tilt over volcanic rocks and aardvark holes”. The following photo of her is by Paul Oliver – I hope she doesn’t mind that I’ve nicked it from her blog :-

Whilst Miranda has gone to “check out some wildebeest” in the Serengeti, hoping to catch the migration.

Meanwhile, I am just going to the “check out” (hold the wildebeest) to buy stuff, stuff and more stuff (mostly brandy butter). Again and again and again.

I don’t have any wild animals to go and chase, or any big cat spotting to do in my back garden…..this is as good as it gets:-

Rubbish.

Ha, ha, That looks really dangerous – and a bit pissed off I might add. I too have a sicko at home, but fortunately, this is my one day with a babysitter so I’m not too badly off. I have to make a phone call in half an hour then I can go flying around the shops, …or sit paralysed like I always do when faced with a long list.

I too dream of being too hot and not wearing shoes and just lounging around listening to cicadas. The cat photo made me very happy for some reason. Think it is just a gorgeous colour and looking so daft! Please pass on my respects! And hope your son gets better soon,

Thank you Reluctant Memsahib – the thought of eating mango’s with you is just what I want to be doing – how did you know they are may favourite things? (or maybe that applies to every child who has grown up in Africa with a mango tree in their garden) Lx

Yes Expat Mum, the cat almost looks indignant that I’m taking a photo of him – sorry about your sick offspring Lx

Thanks Tanvi, I will let him know he cheered you up and don’t forget that you’ve been tagged Lx

Hello Cold Spaghetti thanks for dropping in Lx

Girl With The Mask – you’ve changed your name and gone all posh!! How are you?? Haven’t seen you around recently Lx
